The New Model Home
presents a new alternative in earthquake and flood resistance.
These 400 square foot structures
have a living room, bath room, two bedrooms, and kitchen.
Ceramic tiles help keep the floor clean and beautiful.
By building them
in clusters of 15-20 homes, it becomes affordable to install
electricity and running water.
These new model
homes are built with concrete poured into a mold with steel
reinforcements. Because the final structure consists of one
block of steel-reinforced cement, it resists earthquakes better
than cinder block homes.

in Ciudad Romero.
A matching grant from a charity
is keeping the cost to US-based donors low: $2,000 per family.
Here volunteers and neighbors
are helping to lay the foundation.
